I love celebrating Independence day. What's not to love about red, white, blue, food, fun, friends, and fireworks! It was quite a different holiday for us not being in Omaha a.k.a. the city of firework obsessed citizens. But we still enjoyed it, even without the amazing view we had at our old house.
Fourth of July this year was extremely busy for our family! We started off the day with our ward (our local LDS congregation) pancake breakfast. It was at 9am and was already proving to be a HOT day for us. We had a delicious breakfast, and the boys joined in on the children's bike parade.
After the breakfast we rushed home to cool off, put some finishing touches on my cupcakes, and to let Katy have a quick nap. Then we were off to our friends house, the Auger's, for a delicious lunch! Oh boy, it did not disappoint...I still think about it. Apparently it was all I could think about that day too because I didn't get any pictures of our friends! Sorry.
This was my first try at filled cupcakes! In honor of the holiday I made red velvet cupcakes filled with vanilla whipped icing. For the decoration I made white chocolate cupcake picks, those were fun to make!
Aren't these so clever?! They were just as yummy and refreshing as they look! They will definitely be making an appearance in our house for the holiday next year!
After lunch we rushed back home for everyone to take naps...okay, Jack stayed awake to slice up a watermelon for dinner time...I'm sure he enjoyed the peace and quiet too. After some quick power naps we headed over to our other friends house, the Ellis's, for dinner. After dinner we headed outside to light some fireworks and enjoy the perfect evening weather.

I really don't know what's up with Jacob's eyes in the picture below.
Overall it was an amazing day. We are so blessed to have such made such amazing friends so quickly in Colorado. We are so blessed to live in the USA and to be able to enjoy safety and freedom each day here. I am so thankful for such a beautiful little family to enjoy days like these with.

Looks like fun! Augers?! Any relation to Chris? His whole family lives out that way.
Just talked to Val tonight and my suspicions were correct. I'm glad you guys like it out there. If you head this way any time soon I'd love to see you!
