How come people don't tell you these things?

Sunday night was an eventul night for us. We were getting the kids ready for bed and Jack went to lay Jacob down on our bed and Jacobs arm got caught underneath him and suddenly a loud pop and then an eruption of cries. His arm went completely limp and he wouldn't use it. We thought he might have broken it so we decided to go to the Children's hospital here. We dropped Tyler off at a friends and headed towards the E.R., thank goodness Bekah and Jimmy called and told us there was a Children's urgent care center still open (and right when they called we were just about to pass the exit to get there), so we went there instead (which saved us time and money, thanks!). Anyway, it was just us and another mom with her baby there, so we were seen very quickly. The nurse moved his arm this way and that, as he screamed in pain. The doctor came in and did the same thing over again, and then they decided to take some X-Rays. The x-rays showed no break, thank goodness. But determined his elbow was most likely dislocated. So after consulting with some orthopedic residents at the hospital they decided she should try and pop it back into place. Thank goodness she was able to do it, he was absolutely fine once she fixed it. So now comes my reason for this blog entry title- We've told a few of our friend/family about this and they have all responded with "Oh, yeah, that happened to so and so a few times now, it's really common" They call this "Nursemaids Elbow" and is usually common in toddlers. Well, geez, how come no one tells parents about this "common" occurance until after it happens?? Not that we could have avoided it, but it would be nice to know so we could have been a little less worried about our 6 month old having a broken arm. Poor baby, the doctor said that this was actually the youngest they had ever seen it happen to, so, in that aspect it wasn't "common".
He acted like nothing had happened the next day, he was rolling all over the place, pushing up on it, using it to play with his toys. So he's all better now, we just hope it doesn't happen again.
