On December 16th I had surgery on my left hip. It was a hip scope that did some things to hopefully prevent the pain I had in April from coming back. The doctor had diagnosed me with femuralacetabuler impingement and a laberal tear. Basically my hip joints are really deep, and the bones were pinching against each other and caused a tear in the cartilage in between the joint. It was such a hard decision that caused A LOT of stress leading up to the day of surgery- postpone the surgery until Katy takes a bottle and is eating solids OR just get it over with. As with all my babies, Katy refused to drink from a bottle. We tried everything to get her to learn to drink from bottles, even tried sippy cups, but she wouldn't have it. I was really nervous about her not getting enough to eat the day of surgery, so I did all the research I could to figure out what medications I'd be given and how long they would linger in my milk.
My parents were able to plan their trip to Rapid City (for my brothers graduation) so that they came through Omaha and stayed for a couple days to help us out with the kids the day of surgery. It was such a relief knowing they would be taken care of, and that I didn't have to ask one of our friends to wake up at 5am to watch them. It was nice to give the boys a little time with grandma and grandpa too, since we aren't able to see them very often.
I prayed so hard that things would go well, and they did. We had planned on Jack bringing Katy to Bekah after he dropped me off (because I knew Bekah could handle the super cranky baby that could result from not eating, THANKS SO MUCH for being willing to care for her that day), but when he got home she had already taken a bottle from my mom pretty well, and it was super icey outside so they decided to keep her home and just have my mom take care of her for the day. (I'm pretty sure Grandma had a secret plan all along to keep Katy to herself that day though, Katy loved every second of grandma and grandpa time) She never "drank" from a bottle, they ended up just squirting the bottle in her mouth, with her screaming the whole time, "I am NOT happy about this bottle, just so you know!!!", but once the bottle was gone she was happy and content. (Early the next morning when I was able to nurse her again, she gave me THE BIGGEST, sweetest, most tender loving smile/look ever, I will never forget it, as if saying "Thanks mom for feeding me again, I missed you a lot.")
The surgery went really well, and the doctor said "It was really good that I decided to do the surgery." I don't handle anesthesia very well, so the first day was really difficult. I was extremely nauseous and weak until about 6:30 that night, but after that my recovery went really well, and was right on schedule. It was EXTREMELY difficult to not be able to do anything for the first two weeks. I had to be on crutches and couldn't put any weight on that leg. It was so hard not being able to help Jack with anything. My dad helped him bring our bed downstairs and we slept in the living room for the first week. I wish I had gotten a picture, it was kind of funny. I am still recovering, but progressing well. I will be doing physical therapy for a few more weeks, and it will be a few months before I am completely back to normal...and then I can start thinking about surgery for my other hip. joy.
We have so many wonderful friends that helped us out the week after my surgery since Jack had to go back to work. I had different friends help me in the morning and afternoon since I couldn't do anything as well as people bringing us dinner. Thank you to everyone.

She is adorable! You are superwoman! Mom had to feed AM like that before. She ended up using a dropper when we were away for a whole weekend. Eventually AM got so tired of it that way after 2 days she took the bottle the last day. Whew. Sleepover in the lr sounds fun. I bet the kids thought that was pretty funny.
Hugs2 ya! Glad you are back on your feet!
